When British acid jazz band Incognito hits the New Frontier stage this coming November 10, it will be like solidifying a bond with Filipinos.
“I have always had a connection with Filipinos,” bared Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick, Incognito’s leader, singer, guitarist, composer, and producer during an interview from Dumaguete where aside from a special performance, he is taking in the new sights, sounds, food, and culture.
“If I am not sleeping, I am creating. Even when you are sleeping you have dreams and they sometimes find their way into songs. There are no two sunrises or sunsets. I have a big wide open window where I am living. So I get inspired by what I see. A cloudy day puts you in a certain mood. If something does not feed your soul, then it is not worth reading or listening to.”
“It is a really nice album with quality instrumentation, songs, and vocals that you should expect from the UK’s most consistent band.” Incognito has released 19 studio albums along with a smattering of compilation, live, and remix albums. They have been lauded for being a part of a classic compilation albumas well as being the first group to be honored by the Universal Music Recording’s “Black Story” series that honors black British artists.
