Lorraine Obed and David Quirke, charged with unrelated second-degree murders, had been scheduled for bail hearings in September

Accused murderer Lorraine Obed appears for her arraignment in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John's via video from prison in Clarenville in September.Bail hearings for two accused murderers didn’t go ahead in St. John’s as planned this week. The bail applications of David Quirke, 20, and Lorraine Obed, 29, had been scheduled for hearings at Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in St. John’s Sept. 26 and Sept. 28, respectively. Quirke’s was postponed until later this month, while Obed’s was cancelled, since she is no longer seeking bail at this point.

Both accused — who are charged with unrelated second-degree murders in downtown St. John’s — have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting a jury trial. Obed has been in custody since her arrest on Aug 19, 2021 for the death of 49-year-old Jimmy Corcoran on Carter’s Hill. Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers responded to report of an assault in progress in the area, arriving to find Corcoran seriously injured in the street. He succumbed to his injuries, believed to have been consistent with a stabbing, shortly afterward.Quirke’s three-week trial is set to begin March 13, 2023.
