Provincial Court Judge David Orr heard Matthew Fowler's application for bail earlier this week but denied it. His reasons, like the evidence presented at the bail hearing, are protected by a publication ban for now. Update via Tara_Bradbury
Matthew Jeremy Fowler, 31, was escorted into provincial court in St. John’s by sheriffs Wednesday, Oct. 19, for his bail hearing, which has been postponed for a week at his lawyer’s request. - Tara BradburyST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Accused of two shootings in Conception Bay South in September, Matthew Fowler has been denied bail.
Generally, bail applications require judges to consider whether the accused is likely to attend court as required, whether their release would cause a public risk, and whether their detention is required to maintain public confidence in the justice system. Police allege Fowler was involved in targeted incidents on Uplands Road in Chamberlains and Greeleytown Road in Fotxtrap in which two men were shot and received serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers are still investigating a report of a third shooting on Peachytown Road in Foxtrap the same day.
