Senator Grace Poe stresses the importance of motorcycle taxis as a vital transportation service and urges the LTFRB to allow their continued operation despite the absence of a law. She assures the public that the LTFRB has the authority to grant extensions while the bill is under review and that the Senate will support the extension. The senator assures both riders and passengers that their transportation services will continue while the law is being finalized.

Senator Grace Poe emphasized that the lack of a law should not result in the job loss of over 60,000 motorcycle riders nationwide. She stated that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ( LTFRB ) possesses the authority to permit their continued operation. Poe made this statement on Saturday, January 18th, recognizing the crucial role motorcycle taxis play as a primary transportation mode for millions of Filipinos.

\'The LTFRB is ultimately responsible for setting the deadline regarding the continuation of these services. They have the option to request an extension while awaiting the passage of the bill. They are the ones who can authorize this,' she explained. Poe further stated, 'If the LTFRB requires a Senate Resolution from us for legal backing, we can certainly provide that. The resolution will be signed by senators to demonstrate our support for the extension while the proposed legislation undergoes review.' \As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, Poe previously led the Committee on Public Services, initiating hearings on motorcycle-for-hire bills several years ago. She underscored the significance of motorcycle taxis as both a safe and viable transportation alternative, generating employment for thousands of riders. 'Fellow Filipinos, please do not worry, as this motorcycles-for-hire service is paramount and should not be discontinued by the LTFRB merely because the law has yet to be enacted,' Poe reassured the public. She elaborated that the pilot study, which conducted test runs for regulated motorcycle taxi and courier operations, has been completed and is serving as the foundation for strengthening the bill. \The LTFRB had previously warned that motorcycle taxis could become 'illegal' if the current 19th Congress concludes without passing the law. Poe stated that senators aim for a comprehensive law encompassing crucial aspects of motorcycle taxi operations, such as licensing, vehicle standards, discounts, insurance, and safety regulations. 'We must be highly specific and comprehensive with this law to ensure a smooth implementation,' she emphasized. Poe added, 'Our fellow citizens, passengers, and service providers should not be apprehensive because while we work on drafting this law, their transportation services and the use of these apps will continue, preventing our citizens from losing access to transportation.' \During an interview on Usapang Senado on DWIZ, Poe disclosed that she has spoken with the current chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Services, Senator Raffy Tulfo, who indicated his likelihood of sponsoring the bill before the Senate takes a break in February. 'There is still ample time for this to be legislated. So, our drivers should not worry. But, of course, I understand their concerns about this,' she said. 'Last week, he mentioned that he seems capable of sponsoring it. But of course, let's give him the opportunity to provide his official statement regarding this matter,' she added
