The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) and local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure peace and security on May 1, Labor Day.

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos issued the statement in light of possible protests in connection with Labor Day.

“While we support all lawful and peaceful activities in commemoration of Labor Day, we must ensure public safety and peace and order," he said. “Let us make sure that a sizable security contingent will be fielded, particularly in known convergence areas, while the policy of maximum tolerance will be strictly observed by police security forces.
