Senator Deborah O'Neill has hit out at PwC despite news it had fired eight partners over the tax leaks scandal, saying the firm was still engaging in 'obfuscation' over the breach and avoiding true accountability.
PwC announced the dismissals on Monday, publicly naming the eight men - including former CEO Tom Seymour - as it continues to deal with the fallout from revelations a number of former staff attempted to use confidential information from the Australian Taxation Office to grow the business.
However, speaking to Business Now on Sky News Australia Senator O'Neill said the move counted for little as the"details" of the breach remain hidden from public view."I don't think the public is any wiser to actually what went on, certainly we don't know any of the details about these failures of ethical standards and lack of professionalism.
Senator O'Neill said that by providing only the names PwC had rendered the information worthless, as there was no way to assess the"veracity" of the firm's claim each of those listed were involved. "I remain very concerned that we still don't know what the terms of reference are, what were they looking at? Who is this report done by? Where is the transparency?"
