BECAUSE of space limitations, it would be impossible to capture Rene's incredible breadth of experience in the learning and teaching of the two sides of the martial arts culture: fighting and healing. I will content myself in the remaining space available to discuss two topics studied in the book under review from an unusual standpoint: that of a martial artist.Perhaps paradoxically, it was only after Rene moved to the United States that he started to learn the Filipino martial art of arnis.
