DISMISSED town mayor Alice Guo of Bamban, Tarlac, is now in police custody after leading the Marcos government in a wild goose chase for several weeks across and outside the country after she refused to be grilled in a Senate legislative inquiry.
But her arrest in Tangerang City near Jakarta and her quick repatriation to Manila may have been inspired mainly by the Senate's bid, functioning as an investigative body, to acquire jurisdiction over her body, than by any specific warrant of arrest issued by any Philippine court.
Entirely on their own, without any reported organic links to Guo, a couple of highly placed suspects are rumored to be engaged in large-scale POGO operations, even if their names have not surfaced during the inquisition. On the money laundering issue alone, corporate analysts are convinced Guo's alleged operations, possibly involving billions of US dollars, could not have taken place without the participation and protection of some big-name political operators and financial institutions.
