There, I found a warm community, open classrooms, civic-minded families, and the sincere idealism of American youth and educators. The AFS program, which brings together thousands of young people worldwide, allowed me to forge bonds across cultures and faiths, united in a shared aspiration to build a more peaceful, inclusive world. That experience profoundly shaped my outlook.
The Ford Foundation supported my university’s graduate program in health social science, funding scholarships, training, and conferences for advocates working on gender, human rights and reproductive health. These philanthropic efforts are rooted in solidarity and partnership.But even these are often overshadowed by a militarized foreign policy. The US continues to back regimes in the Global South that claim democratic legitimacy while practicing repression, corruption and exclusion.
