TWELVE senatorial candidates, and 52 party-list parties have been proclaimed winners in the May 12 midterm election, amid conflicting claims about the integrity of the process. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) was quick to congratulate itself for the 89 percent voting turnout, and the speed with which it counted 58 million votes.

News analysts seem convinced that both former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte outperformed President Bongbong Marcos in the senatorial election, despite the fact that the first is now detained for alleged crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court at The Hague, and the second is facing an impeachment trial before the end of June at the Philippine Senate. Apparently, BBM is hurting much from the public effects of this conflict.
