Nine persons were injured after the roof of a newly opened food park in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu collapsed at the height of heavy rain on Sunday night, Feb. 5.
CEBU CITY –
“The injured persons were enjoying the food and drinks at Mactan Lifestyle Park, which just opened a few hours before the incident. They sustained head contusions, minor bruises, and abrasions in their arms and neck,” said Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.The center of the food park’s roof made of steel and plastic sheets collapsed after it accumulated rainwater, Bañacia said.
Engr. Perla Amer, head of the City Engineering Office, has recommended the temporary closure of the food park to Mayor Junard Chan who graced the opening of the food park and left before the incident happened.
