Sky News host Peta Credlin says as citizens of a democracy, we deserve “proper information” about the Albanese government’s plan to repatriate the families of ISIS fighters from Syrian camps.

“No one from the government’s been prepared to level with the Australian people about who is coming, when they’re coming, what crimes they may have committed, and how we’re going to be kept safe once they’re back,” Ms Credlin said.

She said it’s this sort of “gutlessness” to front the camera and provide the detail we all deserve that “gives governments a bad name and that tarnishes our democracy”. “There is a case that can be made for bringing them back, especially for the children who have done no wrong,” Ms Credlin said. “I would probably argue against bringing the women back, but I would at least give a minister credit, standing in front of the cameras and making that case to the Australian people.

“But that’s what this government won’t do. And given this repatriation was never mentioned before the election, the least they can do now is be transparent.”
