Coalition loss in Aston by-election would be ‘bad news’ for DuttonA loss for the Coalition in the Aston by-election would be “very bad news” for Opposition leader Peter Dutton, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. “They say it would be the first time it has happened in 100 years – a situation where the government has won one back off the Opposition,” Mr Clennell said. “But having said that, if you look at the recent history of these things, it's often been, in recent years, a very narrow Opposition victory that occurs. “I expect it to be tight.” The by-election will be held on April 1 to fill the seat held by former MP Alan Tudge, who resigned this month. Mr Clennell said the Liberals “are yet to select a candidate for the seat”, with a selection likely to be made in the next 24 hours.
