Pause for breath. Pausing is a great habit—when you’re about to say a harsh word or do something drastic, take a breath. The act of inhaling and exhaling is akin to resetting our minds so we may start afresh.

Allocate an hour for learning every day. Learn something new: a foreign language, a new skill, how to play an instrument, cooking an exotic dish, and so on. If you don’t have a lot of time, make it 30 minutes in the morning and evening. Pay yourself a compliment every day, especially on rough days and also because no one else may do it for you. Sometimes, only you know what you’ve accomplished in a day and so it makes sense to appreciate yourself for even the smallest things you did. There are days when simply surviving is a feat in itself.
