The oil spill brought about by the sinking of the MT Terranova off Limay, Bataan, last July 25 has posed a serious threat to various communities not just in Bataan, but also in the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, and Bulacan, as well as Manila Bay.These include the fisherfolk communities whose livelihoods have been affected by the disaster just as they were beginning to recover from typhoon Carina and the Habagat.
About 8,000 residents, particularly the fisherfolk, received food packs through the foundation's Operation Bayanihan project."Hindi po sila talaga makapalaot para mangisda kaya po naapektuhan po ang kanilang pamumuhay, ganun din po ang suportang binibigay sa kanilang pamilya," said Leila Cruz, barangay captain of Brgy. Lamao in Limay.
