OVER 500 business establishments along the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit routes in Cebu City will be displaced due to right-of-way acquisitions which are necessary to create dedicated bus lanes, stations and infrastructure required for the mass transit system.The types of businesses that will be affected are varied, including roadside eateries, according to Norvin Imbong, head of the CBRT project management team.
A 2012 World Bank feasibility study found that areas affected by road right-of-way acquisitions ranged from less than a meter to 13 meters. The study also projected that the project would displace houses, establishments and over 2,000 roadside trees.The CBRT project is being implemented in four contract packages to develop its 35-kilometer network, which includes segregated lanes, feeder routes and urban enhancements.Package 1, covering 2.
