Five former New People's Army (NPA) rebels from Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, successfully completed the Friends Rescued Transformation and Deradicalization Program facilitated by the 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB). Upon completion, they received support from the Municipal Government of Bayog, including cash gifts, food packs, and hygiene kits.
FIVE former New People's Army ( NPA ) rebels from a Zamboanga del Sur town completed on Friday, January 3, 2025, the Friends Rescued Transformation and Deradicalization Program facilitated by the Army's 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB).The 53IB said the former NPA rebels, now called “Friends Rescued,” are from the municipality of Bayog , Zamboanga del Sur.
Upon completion of the program, the 53IB said the Municipal Government of Bayog, in partnership with a civilian concerned stakeholder, provided support to the five “Friends Rescued.”The five “Friends Rescued” received cash gifts, food packs and hygiene kits during a completion ceremony held at the municipal hall of Bayog.The ceremony also included a simple yet inspiring message of encouragement and support for the reintegration of the five Friends Rescued into society, according to the 53IB.'This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the municipal government of Bayog to support the successful reintegration and rehabilitation of individuals who have undergone deradicalization program,' the 53IB said in a statement.Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas, 53IB commander, visited the militia patrol base in Lison Valley village, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.The visit has provided Vargas the opportunity to personally interact with the militiamen and reinforce the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism and operational readiness.
