Vergeire said only patients aged 18 to 74 would be enrolled in the trial. To be excluded are those with heart and kidney problems and those with bacterial infections.The country stopped using hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir/ritonavir last month following the World Health Organization’s findings that they did not help improve the condition of hospitalized patients when compared with standard of care.
Earlier, researchers from the University of the Philippines projected the average total by Aug. 12 to be 144,700 cases. In their updated projection, total cases by the end of the month could range from a low of 149,258 to a high of 209,091. An additional 636 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 68,997. The death toll, however, climbed to 2,404 as 93 patients succumbed to the severe respiratory disease.
