4,839ha of land in Sabah, Sarawak approved for padi cultivation, says Zahid

Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says this is part of a long-term plan to plant padi on 50,000ha of land in the two states.

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Felcra had been tasked with developing the large-scale padi estates, following its success in developing more than 4,500ha for padi planting in Seberang Perak.

“The plan for a total of 50,000ha is meant to be a long-term plan, but so far 4,839ha have been approved for development in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said during a question and answer session. He added that Felcra Berhad had been tasked with developing the area into large-scale padi estates, following its success in developing more than 4,500ha for padi planting in Seberang Perak.
