IN CONJUNCTION with the Malaysia Day celebrations on September 16, 2023, it is important for Sabah and Sarawak to prioritise strengthening their bilateral relations.
This will allow them to present a more united front in addressing the concerns regarding state rights and the breaches committed by the federal government in relation to the original spirit and intent of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
The discordant and disjointed approaches taken by both states have weakened their position in upholding the terms agreed upon in the Malaysia Agreement 1963. By strengthening their bilateral relations, Sabah and Sarawak can amplify their voices and increase their influence when dealing with the federal government. They can work together to present a united front and demand for the restoration and preservation of their state rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
By leveraging their respective strengths and resources, both states can mutually benefit and enhance their overall development. Addressing the concerns regarding state rights should be a top priority for Sabah and Sarawak.
