The next-generation Toyota Hilux may be revealed later this year, featuring a new name, 'Travo'. Trademark filings in Thailand suggest this upcoming model might utilize an evolved IMV-0 chassis and familiar diesel engines, potentially with mild-hybrid options.
The current Toyota Hilux isn’t exactly the youngest model in its segment. Most of its rivals have either received a heavy update or a full model change in the last five years. Only the Nissan Navara sits on an older platform.
But 2025 could be the year we finally see an all-new Hilux. At least that’s what developments from Thailand suggest. Over there, a new suffix to the Hilux name has caught the attention of local media. The Quezon Avenue extension ‘Maria Clara’ exit on Skyway 3 is now openSuffix, you ask? Traditionally in Thailand, the Hilux has had a suffix attached to its name since 2004. It started with the Vigo, and currently at Revo. Now, it seems that ‘Travo’ will be the next name to be used.
The trademark was filed last December 12, 2024 with the request status still pending, so it can still change down the line. But given that Toyota is making moves regarding the Hilux, it might come as no surprise that the pickup could be revealed later this year whether with the Travo name or not.
As for engines, these will likely be the familiar 2.4-liter and 2.8-liter GD powertrains. Some markets may come with a mild-hybrid system, and minor power and efficiency upgrades are in order. There are no official details from Toyota just yet. That said, the recent activities could mean we’ll see the first of many teasers down the line.
