TWO Metro Manila mayors on Thursday threw their support to the call of Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos Jr. for police colonels and generals to submit courtesy resignation amid reports that some were directly involved in the illegal drug trade.Caloocan City Mayor Dave Gonzalo 'Along' Malapitan and Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie 'Wes' Gatchalian signified their support during separate interviews with The Manila Times.
He said since the DILG secretary was only appealing to the colonels and generals of the PNP, they would not be compelled if they did not want to submit themselves.'I will support Secretary Abalos and the DILG,' Gatchalian said.The two Metro Manila local chief executives were amenable to the need to be more serious in waging war against illegal drugs and the appeal of Abalos for PNP officials to submit their courtesy resignations would be a first 'good step.
