The 1st Rigo Duterte Youth Football Festival gets going today, 15 October 2022, with Davao City’s young footballers showing their wares at the Azuela Cove Sports Hub, the city’s emerging football home.
Rigo, who said he sees great potential in utilizing sports as a vehicle to re-engage the Davao City youth in a post-pandemic world. By staging the tournament, he also believes it will not only benefit young players but also provide parents the opportunity to engage in sporting activities and enjoy a more active outdoor lifestyle.
“I am happy to be a part of the development of sports in the city. It has always been my dream to be involved with kids in molding their character and this is the best venue for them to have that growth,” Rido said.“The former presidential grandson has set his sights on growing grassroots sports programs across the city and we are excited to start our maiden voyage with him,” said tournament organizer Buboy Arrieta.
With the support of his father 1st District of Davao City Representative, Cong. Paolo Z. Duterte, Rigo will open the inaugural games at 8am. Hostilities will start thereafter for the weekender bootfest.
