17 recovered police trainees donate plasma for critically-ill COVID patients
Experts said recovered COVID-19 patients can give their plasma which was proven effective to improve the condition of patients who are in critical condition.
Brig. Gen. Alex Sintin, head of the PNP Training Service, said the 17 police trainees were motivated by the increasing number of patients who have to undergo intubation, with some of them unable to survive the ordeal of the infection. “We hope that this will help critically-ill patients whose immune system is weakened by the infection,” said Sintin.
The first blood plasma collection was conducted on July 29 to 30 at the Jose B. Lingad Hospital in San Fernando City, Pampanga wherein six bags or 3000 cc of plasma was extracted from six police trainees. Additional 11 bags or 5400 cc of convalescent plasma was extracted from 11 police trainees held at the Philippine Red Cross-National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila on August 4 to 5.
