SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE - Around 160 barangay officials, mostly Sangguniang Kabataan leaders, were sent to hospitals after complaining of upset stomachs, apparently due to food contamination during a seminar inside a hotel here on Tuesday.

The victims were part of a 2-day Gender And Development seminar being held at the Travelers Hotel and Event Center.The seminar, organized by the local government of San Carlos City in Pangasinan, was attended by 335 participants including Mayor Julier Resuello, Vice Mayor Joseres Resuello and members of the city council.The first complaint of stomach pain was received at 2:30 p.m. and was attended by the hotel nurse.

Upon receiving the first report of the alleged food poisoning case, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority , led by the Public Health and Safety Department , Fire Department, and the Law Enforcement Department immediately sent officers on site to conduct investigation. The water filters have also been extracted from the hotel's water system and collected by Subicwater for testing, results of which are expected to come out within 24 to 48 hours.
