Robert GinesThe Department of Migrant Workers said it has received 124 requests from distressed Overseas Filipino Workers from Lebanon to return home due to the rising tension between Israel and Hezbollah militants.
The DMW estimated that there are 17,000 Filipinos in Lebanon, mostly in the construction sector and health care. “But we are looking at the possibility of this coming week na meron na maililikas from there and we are working on the rest in the coming weeks. So the soonest possible time sa Lebanon,” Cacdac said.
A total of 28,965 people have been displaced, mainly in the country’s south, the International Organization for Migration said in an update, adding that the figure had risen by 37 percent since October 23. In Lebanon, at least 58 people have been killed in the cross-border exchanges of fire, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also including at least four civilians, one of them Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah.
