THE Philippine Competition Commission will file cases against onion importers and traders for anti-competitive practices, Malacañang said over the weekend.The Presidential Communications Office reported that the PCC wrote a letter dated August 13 to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to inform him it is in the process of filing complaints against 12 companies and individuals engaged in onion importation and trading for violating the Philippine Competition Act .

'By allocating SPSICs and dividing among themselves the volume of onion imports, the respondents effectively controlled more than 50 percent of the onions imported into the Philippines. 'This is an anti-competitive agreement penalized under Section 14 of the PCA,' the PCC said.The agency alleged that the respondents 'colluded to lessen competition in the market.
