More than 100 individuals were infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) last April after engaging in transactional or paid sex.
Based on the latest data of the Department of Health - Epidemiology Bureau, 114 people acquired HIV after they engaged in transactional sex.
The DOH noted that “people who engage in transactional sex are those who reported that they either pay for sex, regularly accept payment for sex, or do both.” Of the total number, 112 individuals or 98 percent of the cases were males whose age ranged from 17 to 62 years old. The report bared that 43 people accepted payment for sex, while 52 individuals paid for sex. Meanwhile, 19 people engaged in both.
The health department noted that from January to April of this year, there are already 529 cases of individuals acquiring HIV after engaging in transactional sex.Related Posts
