TWO encounters in Barangay Tacayan, Tapaz, Capiz, led to the seizure of firearms and explosives and the death of a New People's Army or Communist Terrorist Group member on December 9 and 10, 2024. On December 9, troops from the Army's 12th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Camp Ceferino S. Carreon, Calinog, Iloilo, encountered around 14 members of the dismantled Central Front and Regional Sentro De Grabidad of the Komiteng Rehiyon Panay .
The following day, December 10, the same battalion encountered three fleeing NPA members in pursuit operations.The brief exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of Jerryl Giganto Katipunan, alias Osong/Jason, a member of the RSDG Madia-as Platoon. His remains, along with other NPA paraphernalia, were recovered. Sison commended the 12IB troops under Lieutenant Colonel Vicel Jan Garsuta, commanding officer of the 12IB, for their successful combat operations.
