Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday underscored the need to find a middle ground between public safety and economic activity when the enhanced community quarantine lapses on May 15.

Robredo proposed some businesses to be allowed to operate like barbershops, salons, and health clinics whether or not the ECQ is lifted in some Metro Manila areas, but said this should be done in phases.Robredo said construction workers must also be allowed to return to their respective jobs.

The vice president suggested the gradual resumption of economic activity after Metro Manila mayors recommended three quarantine options after the May 15 deadline. Robredo said the extension of ECQ in some areas due to COVID-19 is a balancing act that needs to be done.
