PUTRAJAYA: The initial focus on Saturday when the mandatory face mask rule rolls out will be on public transport to ensure full compliance among users, says the Health Ministry.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was because public transport, including buses and trains, were operating at full capacity and no longer implementing social distancing. “Now we have evidence to suggest that using face masks can break the chain of Covid-19 transmission by 60% – that is the reason we encourage the wearing of the face mask.
Besides public transport users, he said other individuals must also put on a face mask whenever they are in crowded areas or confined spaces. “We must make it compulsory for our families and ourselves to put on a mask. We hope everyone can embrace the practice of wearing a face mask at all times outside, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.
Meanwhile, the three locally transmitted cases involved Malaysians in Sabah, two at Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu and one at Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas. “According to our data, there are still 1,742 people who failed to submit the test results from their second Covid-19 screening that should be taken on the 13th day of their home quarantine before we can release them from their home surveillance order.
