Mr Mermelshtayn, formerly with Equifax, had been overseeing Zip’s transformation from a local company with 40 employees to one with operations in several different countries, a largely redundant role given Zip is curtailing its plans. Sezzle has since sued meme-stock group GameStop in the Ramsey County District Court over claims its merchant partner breached a financial contract when it dumped its payment services.

Meanwhile, Zip’s chief product officer Travis Tyler, former chief product and marketing officer at neobank 86400, who before that was at Westpac and St George, quit recently to join home lender Lendi.
