KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Historian and writer Yusuf Liu’s exhibition on the influence of Chinese Muslims in Islamic civilisations, particularly here in Malaysia, has been well received by both international tourists and locals.
Many told him that they were not aware of the extent to which Chinese Muslims had been present in the region for centuries, and even local non-Muslim Chinese visitors were pleased to see themselves represented, he said. He picked up the art of wood engraving in Malaysia thanks to the abundance of good wood in the country, he said.
His calligraphy is done in Jawi, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese with each work conveying the wisdom of the culture it is written in., or traditional Malay-language proverbs.
