Political party volunteers have been doorknocking in Windsor, Ont., in recent weeks, encouraging residents to exercise their right to vote. But the canvassing was not for a federal, provincial, or municipal election. Instead, the volunteers were looking for those eligible to vote just across the Detroit River, in an extremely tight U.S. presidential race.

” She noted that many Canada-based Americans had not moved to the country permanently, such as university students or those who had moved for work, and that their decision whether or not to vote would affect them. “I have never missed an election in the U.S., because I understand that what happens in the U.S. will impact Canada,” she said. “What happens in the U.S. impacts my family and my friends who are still there.
