“Last year, there was a record number of pharmacy robberies in Toronto – 124 in total,” he said. “Of those arrested, 69% were young people under the age of 18.” “There’s a clear demand for prescription narcotics” and young people are being “lured by the quick money that they can make by selling these prescription narcotics on the street,” he said.Harris said “upwards of $60 per pill can be made” and it’s mainly “high-grade, very strong, opiate prescription narcotics” – fentanyl, oxycontin and Percocet – that are in demand.
Harris said six of 10 accused are under 18, two are only 14, and eight of those arrested were already before the courts on previous charges and were out on bail when arrested.
