Th outback NSW town's population halved in five years, but things are looking up as more young families start calling the area home.
Pooncarie's population halved following the Millennium Drought, forcing the local primary and preschool to close its doorsSeven students had their first day of transition last week and the school projects class numbers will keep growing
"Some friends mentioned that the Pooncarie Pub lease was for sale and we came for a drive to have a look," she said. "The fact that the school is open encourages people to stay around town because their kids can get that education," she said.Those newly enrolled students had their first day of transition class last Wednesday to prepare for the shift from preschool to kindergarten."We got everything the night before, we talked about how it was going to be different from going to preschool," she said.
" vital because it gives the kids the opportunity to have that face-to-face learning we travel to other schools to give them opportunities to socialise," Ms King said."It's a great little school, with all the facilities you would need, and how great for the children to be growing up with all their little friends and going through it together from day one," Ms Hickey said.
