The Flames’ farm-clubbers wound up on the wrong end of a Monday night marathon, a game that required 51:22 of sudden-death before Ryker Evans scored to lift the host Coachella Valley Firebirds to a 3-2 triumph. “I was proud of the guys tonight,” head coach Mitch Love told Wranglers TV after the triple-overtime defeat. “That’s a lot of hockey. It’s not easy to do, mentally and physically, but I was proud of the guys sticking with it there. We had our chances, too. It just didn’t fall for us tonight. Hopefully, it falls for us on Wednesday.”
The top-seeded Wranglers tallied twice in Monday’s opening period — a back-door tap-in from Adam Klapka and then a breakaway bury by Jakob Pelletier — but couldn’t sneak another puck past Joey Daccord for the remainder of the evening. Daccord, who started four games this winter for the Seattle Kraken, finished with 60 saves in the home crease, including 35 in next-goal-wins territory.
