With the Elks winning the four-team tournament played at Elk Park in Brookfield Sept. 22-23, it marked the fourth straight season the local team has pulled off this feat.

“This was fantastic," said playing-coach Mike Wood, who is in his 10th year as an Elks coach. “We weren’t sure how our summer was going to go because of our pitching situation. Randall Bernard was busy as a lobster fisherman and with Justin Schofield pitching a lot of ball away in the International Softball Conference, we were concerned.

“The past summer was spent a bit more on developing and focusing on the development of our young players,” he said. “Will Singer and other players from the intermediate league with the U-17 Elks came up and played a lot with us. This was good experience for these players. Cam Euloth, another good young ball player, he was in our lineup a lot this year.”

To clinch the championship, the Elk downed the Fawcetts 10-2 with Bernard throwing a two-hitter for the win. In reality, Crowell was one busy ballplayer. In August, he played at the national senior men's championship in Surrey, B.C., with the East Hants Shooters Bar and Grill Mastodons, followed by playing for the Elks in September in the two-championship tournament wins in P.E.I. and Brookfield.
