He advises you to determine exactly what you can spend before any other planning and then work backwards. Imagine you’re only working with cash and that there is no credit or contingency. Decide what cosmetic improvements could wait should a major problem arise. Bryan Baeumler will be teaming up with Scott McGillivray in a renovation competition show called Resort Renovation.“If there’s asbestos or mould, structural issues or electrical, start with those. That attitude could be changing, though, thanks to inflation and rising energy costs. Baeumler believes people have had a bit of a shift in priorities and are looking at ways to reduce the operating or maintenance costs of their homes achieved by increased insulation, better heat retention and longer-lasting materials. These, he says, could produce significant monthly savings in heating and cooling costs.
