A pre-Christmas flurry of appointments of women to CEO roles in the traditionally male-dominated sectors has shifted the dial after a year of stalled progress.
P/ASX200 companies were helmed by women in 2022 – only four more than six years ago – while the proportion of key operational roles occupied by women at ASX200 companies rose just 3 percentage points to 15 per cent between 2017 and 2022.
Other women who are currently leading ASX energy and mining companies – or will be in 2023 – include Ms Hick at Fortescue, Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill and Lynas CEO Amanda Lacaze. “We also talk about the concept of women being put into positions when things are in a state of flux, and certainly the energy and mining industries are in a state of flux.”
