A woman’s body has been found under a busy roadway in central Melbourne on New Year’s Day.

She was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.Investigators at the scene would not confirm the nature of the woman’s death.

Police cordoned off a large area around where the body was found, with a tent set up, and searched the area under the bridge.The inside of a red Holden commodore sedan near the body was photographed extensively and later towed. The crime scene tape has since been removed.
