Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor but distracted driving has not, RCMP say.
A 25-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries Sunday after being struck by an SUV while in a marked crosswalk. The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. on Highway 19A near Terminal Park Mall.
Police said that witness evidence and dashcam video suggest the victim, who was with a friend, was legally crossing the highway when she was struck by a northbound vehicle. The vehicle, a newer-model SUV, was driven by a woman in her late 20s who remained at the scene. It was towed away and will undergo a mechanical inspection.jbell@timescolonist.com
