Police believe the driver of an allegedly stolen car fled the scene after being involved in a crash which left one person dead and three in hospital.

Paramedics and police tried to revive one of the female occupants of the Cerato but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A man and a woman who were in the Mercedes and another female passenger from the Cerato were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.Footage from the scene shows both cars were badly damaged in the crash. The front of the Cerato was left as a pile of twisted metal.

A large police presence was at the scene into the morning, with Mahoneys Road closed while investigations were underway. Investigators are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 orAt least 76 deaths have been recorded on Victoria's roads so far this year, a dramatic increase from this time in 2022.
