Hopedale RCMP arrested and charged an 18-year-old woman following a hit and run in the community that sent two women to the hospital on Nov. 18. FileHOPEDALE, N.L. — An 18-year-old woman is facing charges after a hit-and-run in Hopedale sent two women to hospital on Nov. 19.
RCMP officers responded to a reported collision on American Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. Police said two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle which drove off before officers arrived. The injured women were taken to the local health centre in Hopedale for their injuries and were later taken in an air ambulance to the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.The driver was taken into custody, and police said arresting officers noted signs of alcohol impairment.The accused is facing two counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
She is also facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act for operating a vehicle without registration, operating a vehicle without insurance and operating a vehicle between midnight and 5 a.m. with a novice driver Class 5 Level II licence.Police said the investigation is ongoing, with further charges possible.
