Last month, Department of Education & Early Development Commissioner Deena Bishop told education leaders to submit respective federalapplications with requests for both 25 and 100 Mbps download speeds. She said this would allow schools to remain eligible to apply for DEED’s Broadband Assistance Grants, which lean on matching federal funds to pay for at least 25 Mbps download speeds.

“I have rural students that take four days to take a test, a test that takes the urban students — or those that have adequate Internet speed — one day. That’s hard when you’re taking a test,” Sen. Click Bishop, R-Fairbanks, said.
