Smoky conditions in this part of the province again
There are currently 20 active fires in the northeast region of Ontario, reports the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
There is one new confirmed fire in the northeast as of the early evening of June 20. Cochrane 15 is located one kilometer northwest of Attawapiskat. The 0.1 hectare fire is not under control. Local fires of note include Sudbury 10, which was confirmed on June 2. It has been remapped to 1,370 hectares and is located three kilometres west of Fox Lake and five kilometres east of Acheson Lake. It is not under control.
Sudbury 17 was confirmed June 4. It is a 5,857 hectare wildland fire located three kilometres west of Madawanson Lake and 0.5 kilometres east of Pilot Lake. Multiple crews are committed to the fire. It is not under control. Sudbury 19 was confirmed on June 4. It is a 459 hectare wildland fire located south of Shakwa Lake and one kilometre west of Lower Shakwa Lake. It is being held.The fire hazard is moderate from North Bay to Pembroke. From Parry Sound going north, the hazard is high to extreme . The northeast region of Ontario is also currently seeing heavy smoke conditions due to a large number of fires in northwestern Ontario and Quebec.Visit www.firesmoke.ca to see smoke forecasts for your area.
