The largest proposed increase for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, 64.4 per cent, would be for Windsor customers with a 4” meter size. The average quarterly bill would increase from $6,468.25 to $10,636.62. “I then felt anger as we’re all already feeling the crunch with property assessments going out recently and being unbelievably high for some,” Cottenden said.
This is proposed to increase to $1,434,006, a 34 per cent increase, in 2024-2025; to $1,729,659, a 21 per cent increase, in 2025-2026; and to $1,760,699, a 2 per cent increase, in 2026-2027. He said council went through several meetings where the water rate study was discussed. Perhaps council had been “more caught up on the consolidation piece than the rates at some points in time.”
He made a motion to have council revisit the water utility rates with the consultants who prepared the rate study to see if there is anything else that could be done to “smooth-out” the proposed increases. The motion was defeated.
