Not so long ago, the idea of a National Anti-Corruption Commission was dismissed as a 'fringe issue' by Scott Morrison. No-one is suggesting that now, writes David Speers.

Labor figures are careful about promising to refer Robert themselves. It might end up being a government department or agency that does the referral instead, particularly after the prime minister recently suggested that "it could be regarded as entirely inappropriate action" for a politician to "try to direct the anti-corruption commission into what to do".

The allegations aired yesterday about Robert are so serious, it's hard to imagine them being ignored. Even if they are being completely denied. In a written submission to a parliamentary committee , Anthony Daly makes explosive claims about Robert's connection to the consultancy firm Synergy 360, which was first revealed months ago by the Nine newspapers.

"Stuart Robert's political influence and connections within the government sector were deemed crucial in ensuring favourable outcomes."The various parties named by Daly have all denied the allegations, including Robert, who was particularly emphatic. "I reject completely all of his allegations in the strongest possible terms," he said.
