Why restaurants should be more transparent about their prices via nparts
Trying to find somewhere to get a quiet drink in Toronto’s Queen West neighbourhood can feel like an exercise in futility. It’s not that there aren’t enough bars; there are plenty of hip watering holes and resto-lounges from which to choose, but unless you’re in the mood to elbow your way through a crowded room only to pay an egregious sum of money for bar-rail mixed drinks, many of the most popular watering holes in the area will hardly seem welcoming.
It remains difficult to focus on the food at hand and fully enjoy a meal when you’re stuck wondering how much a round of appetizers is going to cost. “Myself, and most chefs I think, leave prices off menus so that the focus is honestly more about the food and the work put into it,” says the chef behind the priceless menu, who wished to remain anonymous. “Also, it gives us the flexibility of changing prices according to ingredients as their prices increase and decrease.”
