Langkawi has experienced a drop in domestic tourists over the years and the pandemic accelerated the decline.

To help improve the economy, LTA urges the government to do something to promote the island and charm domestic tourists. Locals lamented that the prices of food and accommodation in Langkawi have increased and foreign tourists felt the pinch too. Some said the cost of getting to the island has also gone up.

Aside from this, locals also feel like there’s not much to do or no new things to do around the island, especially if you’ve seen it all.They pointed out that most beaches have been turned into private hotel beaches with only a few public stretches remaining.
